Hi Reader!
For a long time, my sister Linda and I thought confidence meant not having insecurities.
But the older we've gotten, the more we've realized that's probably impossible.
Most of us have things we'd change about ourselves if we could.
β A feature we don't like.
β A flaw we wish wasn't there.
β An insecurity we'd rather not think about.
The question isn't whether we have insecurities (we all do). π
It's whether we allow them to run our lives.
π The Trap We Fell Into
When we were younger, we spent far too much time focusing on our flaws.
β Worrying about how we looked.
β What other people thought.
β Whether they would notice the things we felt insecure about.
And honestly?
It stopped us from enjoying life as much as we should have.
Sometimes we'd avoid doing things because we felt self-conscious.
Other times, we'd be so focused on our insecurities that we couldn't fully enjoy the moment we were in.
Looking back, it's sad how much energy we gave to things that didn't deserve that much attention.
πΏ Confidence Isn't What We Thought
One thing we've learned over the years is that confidence isn't about loving every part of yourself.
In fact, we don't think that's realistic.
There are still things about ourselves that we don't particularly like.
And that's okay.
Confidence isn't pretending your flaws don't exist.
It's refusing to let them dictate your life.
You don't have to love everything about yourself.
You don't even have to like everything.
But you can decide that those things won't stop you from living your life.
π One Thing I'm Working On
Since we're talking about insecurities, I'll share one of mine. I can't believe I'm willing to share this, but here goes...
I've always been self-conscious about my feet. π³
Because of that, I've often chosen shoes that covered them up more than I really wanted.
I honestly thought I was protecting myself by doing so.
But looking back, I think it often had the opposite effect.
It made me feel even more self-conscious and limited my choices.
So this year, I've decided to do something different.
I'm going to buy the shoes I actually like.
Will I feel uncomfortable?
Definitely. π
But I'm no longer willing to let that insecurity make decisions for me.
And honestly, I think that's what confidence often looks like.
Not waiting until you're comfortable.
But doing it anyway. πͺ
β¨ Do What You Can, Then Let It Go
If there's something you can improve, improve it.
β
Take care of your health.
β
Exercise.
β
Dress in a way that makes you feel good.
β
Take care of your skin.
β
Do the best you can with what you've got.
But after that?
Let it go.
Because there comes a point where focusing on your flaws becomes far more damaging than the flaws themselves.
The goal isn't perfection.
The goal is learning to enjoy your life anyway.
β± Our Summer Challenge
Summer can be a difficult time for many of us.
β We're wearing fewer layers.
β Showing more skin.
β And often feeling more exposed.
So here's our challenge for all of us this summer:
β
Wear the outfit.
β
Go to the beach.
β
Take the photo.
β
Do the thing you've been avoiding because of an insecurity.
Not because you've suddenly become confident.
But because you're tired of letting your insecurities make decisions for you.
π One Thought To Leave You With
Nobody gets to enjoy life once they're perfect.
Because nobody is perfect.
Life is happening right now.
And the sooner we stop waiting for perfect, the sooner we can start enjoying it. π
β
Now we'd love to hear from you, Reader.
Do you have an insecurity you're no longer willing to let hold you back this summer?
