Hi Reader!
When we think about becoming more confident, we often assume we need to feel confident first.
✅ Then we'll speak up.
✅ Try something new.
✅ Wear the outfit.
✅ Go somewhere alone.
✅ Apply for the opportunity.
But I think we have it backward.
Confidence often comes after we do the thing—not before.
Because every time we do something that challenges us, we give ourselves a little more evidence:
I can handle this.
💛 Confidence Is Built Through Evidence
Think about something you feel really comfortable doing now.
Chances are, you weren't always confident doing it.
- Maybe you were nervous the first time.
- Maybe you weren't particularly good at it.
- Maybe you made mistakes.
But you kept going.
And eventually, something changed.
What once felt uncomfortable became familiar.
What once made you nervous became something you knew you could handle.
That's how confidence grows.
Not because you suddenly wake up one morning feeling fearless.
But because you've collected enough experiences that tell you:
I've done hard things before. I can probably handle this too. 💪
🌱 Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
One of the best ways I've found to build confidence is to deliberately step outside my comfort zone.
This doesn't mean you have to do anything extreme.
It could be...
✅ Going somewhere alone when you normally wouldn't.
✅ Starting a conversation with someone new.
✅ Trying a workout class you've been nervous about.
✅ Wearing something a little different.
✅ Learning a new skill.
Or finally doing something you've been putting off because you're afraid you won't be good at it.
The first time might feel horribly uncomfortable.
That's okay.
Do it again.
And again.
Because if you try something once, feel awkward and immediately decide:
"Well, I'm clearly not good at this."
...you haven't really given yourself much of a chance.
The first attempt only proves that you're new at something.
But when you keep going, you start collecting different evidence.
- "That wasn't quite as scary this time."
- "I actually did better than I thought."
- "I made a mistake, but I handled it."
- "Maybe I CAN do this."
And little by little, your idea of what you're capable of starts to change.
🤝 Learn to Trust Yourself
There's another side to confidence that I don't think we talk about enough:
Keeping promises to yourself.
We'll often go to great lengths to keep a commitment we've made to somebody else.
But the promises we make to ourselves?
Those can suddenly become surprisingly negotiable. 😆
"I'll exercise tomorrow."
Tomorrow comes.
"Maybe Wednesday."
Wednesday comes.
"I'll go next week."
Three months later... still haven't exercised.
Obviously, plans change. Life happens. Missing a workout or changing your mind doesn't mean anything.
But if we repeatedly tell ourselves we're going to do something and then don't follow through, we're not giving ourselves much evidence that we can rely on ourselves.
The opposite is also true.
Every time you say:
"I'm going to do this."
And then actually do it?
You're building self-trust.
And you're showing yourself:
I can rely on me.
And I think that's a huge part of genuine confidence.
✨ You Don't Need to Know Everything Will Work Out
Confidence doesn't mean believing everything you try will be successful.
- Sometimes you'll put yourself out there and get rejected.
- Sometimes you'll try something new and discover you're terrible at it.
- Sometimes things simply won't work out the way you hoped.
Confidence is knowing you can handle that too.
You can learn.
Adjust.
Try again.
Or decide something isn't for you and move on.
The goal isn't to become someone who's never nervous, embarrassed or unsure.
It's to become someone who knows those feelings don't have to stop her.
💛 One Thought to Leave You With
If you want to become more confident, don't wait around for confidence to magically appear.
Give yourself evidence.
✅ Keep one promise you've made to yourself.
✅ Try something that makes you a little uncomfortable.
✅ Do something you've been afraid to do.
And if it doesn't go perfectly?
Keep going.
Because every time you step outside your comfort zone and discover that you can handle what happens, you're building something much more valuable than temporary reassurance.
You're learning to trust yourself.
And there's something incredibly attractive about a woman who knows:
I've got me. 💛
Have a great week, Reader!
